Heritage 3D survey: churches, castles and historic monuments.

Visuoz digitises built heritage by drone and photogrammetry: a complete record of existing conditions, inside and out, carried out without touching the building, for studies, works, archiving and public presentation.

A complete survey without touching the building

Bell towers, vaults, exposed roof structures, carved facades, cliff sites: heritage is often hard to reach and fragile. A photogrammetric 3D survey records the building without contact, scaffolding or cherry pickers. The drone covers roofs and upper parts; interiors are captured on the ground with a full-frame camera, then merged with the exterior into a single georeferenced model.

The model's photographic texture is valuable for heritage: it documents the condition of masonry, renders, roofs and decoration on the date of the survey.

Who is it for?

  • Heritage architects: existing-condition surveys for preliminary studies and works applications
  • Municipalities and intermunicipal bodies: inventory of local heritage, works planning, tourism development
  • Regional heritage services, dioceses, associations: documentation and monitoring of buildings
  • Owners of castles and historic houses: a reliable basis for restoration projects

Heritage survey deliverables

  • Sections and elevations, existing-condition plans (DXF, DWG, PDF)
  • Scaled ortho-images of facades and sections, for stone-by-stone drawing and condition surveys
  • Point cloud and high-definition textured 3D mesh
  • Digital elevation model and contour lines of the surroundings
  • Accuracy report: 1 to 3 cm with RTK GNSS control points

3D digitisation and archiving

Heritage 3D digitisation creates a faithful record of the building at a given time. It serves as a reference before works, makes it possible to track changes (cracks, defects) by repeating the survey, and remains available if the building is damaged. All deliverables and source photos are gathered in the Visuoz viewer.

Presenting the monument to the public

The same photogrammetric model can become a virtual 3D tour with routes, points of interest and explanatory panels, embeddable on the website of the town or tourist office. We did this for Orrouer church and for the study on promoting five heritage sites in Les Avant-Monts.

FAQ

Your questions.

Can the survey be used for a preliminary study on a historic monument?

Yes: sections, elevations, facade ortho-images and the point cloud form the basis of the existing-condition survey required for studies and works applications. Send us the architect's specifications so we can adapt the deliverables.

Is permission needed to fly over a church or castle?

We handle the airspace formalities. We only ask for the consent of the owner or user of the building.

Can the inside of a church be surveyed?

Yes. Nave, choir, chapels and galleries are captured on the ground and merged with the exterior, allowing complete sections of the building.
